The Crackdown on IPIDEA (January 2026)

In late January 2026, Google’s Threat Analysis Group (TAG), in collaboration with various cybersecurity partners and law enforcement agencies, successfully disrupted and dismantled IPIDEA, a residential proxy network.

• Official Findings: The investigation revealed that IPIDEA was essentially operating a massive "botnet-based proxy" system. A significant portion of its proxy nodes was acquired through the deployment of unauthorized malware on user devices.
• Operational Outcome: Google and its partners have successfully cleaned thousands of infected nodes and severed the communication links used by the network for Command and Control (C2).
